FAQs for Candidates

Our teachers told us that the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask. Well, we think it’s very normal to have questions about executive recruiting. In fact, a few might be pretty direct. That’s OK. We thought it might be good to get you started. If you have more, Contact Us.

Do I need a current resume'?

No. Most candidates we represent are not actively looking and may not have a current resume’.

How do we get started?

We sit down together for a confidential discussion, preferably in person. We have a detailed conversation focused not only on what you’ve done in your career, but most importantly to understand the types of opportunities you are interested in considering.

Why should I ever talk to a recruiter when social media is full of opportunities?

Sure social media is full of opportunities. If you “Click to Apply” with everyone else sometimes you’ll get lucky. More often you won’t. You’ll have no advocate to separate you from the pack, much less provide you with key insights about the position and culture. You typically won’t know the compensation package and future career track, so a lot of your “clicks” will turn into dead-ends. Insights into personalities and advice on specific company issues won’t happen on the ‘net. We’re not saying that recruiters are omnipotent beings graced with special powers, but the good ones will give you a serious leg-up in the search process. So take the call. It won’t hurt. We promise.

How do I know that when you call it’s for a real job?

Posting fake opportunities on job boards and social media is not only unethical but it’s downright unprofessional too. We know other executive recruiters do it and it’s despicable. It’s an easy way to gather resumes for their portfolio. NO ONE at Johnson ReSource Group does that and we NEVER will. It’s just that direct! If we call about a position, it’s real and active. Period.

If I submit my resume, will you keep it confidential?

Yes. Always. The vast majority of candidates are happily employed and may not have even thought of looking around before we called. We respect that and would never do anything to jeopardize your current employment.

If you call me about one position, will you shop me to others?

We are not in the business of floating your resume indiscriminately. You’ll never have to worry that somehow you ended up “all over the place.” We may uncover other opportunities after reviewing your qualifications, but we NEVER go beyond the initial search without your advance, explicit permission.

How much do you really work with me?

We work closely with you during the entire process… from the first discussion about the opportunity, throughout each interview, and finally to considering an offer of employment. We will counsel you on counter-offers and resignation protocol, and even help with relocation services if necessary.

Can you help if I want to relocate from this area?

Yes. We will assist (and certainly our client will as well) by putting you in touch with reputable professionals who can make the process of relocation smooth and stress-free. From looking at new neighborhood characteristics through packing up and moving out, we know that a good relocation experience will create a great first impression of your new employer. And we don’t take our responsibility lightly.

What if I get a counter-offer from my boss?

Many executives who are producing value at their current employer can expect a counter-offer when they tender a resignation. If accepted, counter-offers almost never turn out well. The perception of disloyalty is tough to overcome, and your own feeling of being “bought” (or worse, underpaid for too many years) is a bitter pill to swallow. We help you understand the emotional dynamics at play in a counter-offer before it happens, so you’ll be prepared to respond intelligently without burning any bridges.

You guys don’t do this for free, so who pays?

If we are contacting you about a position, all fees are paid by our client. You don’t pay anything. Ever.
